Terms of Use

1. Who this is between

Free Handy Tools is operated by an individual, contactable at hello@freehandytools.com. "We" and "us" mean that operator; "you" means anyone using the site. Using the site means you accept these terms. If you do not, stop using it — there is nothing to cancel and no account to close.

2. What you may do with it

Use the tools as much as you like, for personal or commercial purposes, at no cost. The numbers a tool produces are yours: there is no restriction on using a result in your own work, your own spreadsheet or your own quote to a client, and no attribution is required.

3. The calculators are not professional advice

Every result on this site is an estimate produced from the values you entered and the assumptions the tool states. Nothing here is financial, tax, legal, employment, medical or engineering advice, and no result should be the last check before a decision that matters.

Specifically:

• The Mortgage, Loan Payoff, Auto Loan, Credit Card Payoff and Debt Payoff tools model a loan under one set of assumptions. Real agreements add fees, insurance, rate changes, payment holidays, rounding conventions and day-count rules that no general calculator knows about. Your lender’s figure is the one that governs.
• The Retirement Savings, Compound Interest and Investment Return tools project forward from a rate you supply. Investments do not deliver a constant return, and past performance is not a forecast. These are arithmetic, not advice.
• The Time Card, Hours Between Times and Hourly to Salary tools compute hours and gross pay. They are not a payroll system, they are not a record of what you are owed, and they do not know your jurisdiction’s overtime law, break entitlements, deductions or tax. Your employer’s records and your local employment law govern.
• The conversion tools apply published factors. Where a conversion depends on something we cannot know — the density of the specific ingredient in front of you, a manufacturer’s own shoe sizing, the fluid in your pipe — the answer is an approximation and is labelled as one.
• The Password Generator produces a random string using your browser’s cryptographic randomness. It does not assess whether your use of that password is safe, and it is not a password manager.

Where a decision has money, employment, health or safety attached to it, check the result with a qualified professional or the party that will actually be bound by the number.

4. Accuracy, and what happens when we get it wrong

We take correctness seriously and test the arithmetic, but we do not warrant that any tool is free of error. If you find one, tell us and it will be fixed ahead of other work. We may change, add, or remove any tool at any time, including changing the assumptions a tool makes, without notice.

5. Availability

The site is offered as-is and as-available, with no uptime commitment. It may be unavailable for maintenance, because of a hosting failure, or permanently. Do not build a process that depends on it being reachable.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Click, or cause anyone or anything else to click, on advertisements shown here other than out of genuine interest. Automated, incentivised, repeated or otherwise artificial clicks and impressions are prohibited, are fraud against the advertisers, and will be reported to the ad network.
• Interfere with the advertising or attempt to conceal, obscure, relabel or reposition it.
• Send automated traffic at a rate that degrades the service for other people, or scrape the site wholesale.
• Republish the site or a substantial part of it as your own, or frame it so that it appears to be someone else’s product.
• Attempt to compromise the site or the infrastructure it runs on, or use it for anything unlawful.

7. Your content and ours

Whatever you type into a tool remains entirely yours. We claim no rights in it, and could not exercise any if we did: as the privacy policy explains, your inputs are never transmitted to us.

The design, written content and source code of this site belong to its operator. The mathematics does not belong to anyone — formulas for compound interest and unit conversion are common property, and you are free to implement them yourself.

8. Advertising and third-party links

Advertisements on this site are supplied and selected by Google and its partners. We do not choose individual advertisers, we do not endorse them, and we do not vet what they sell. Any dealing you have with an advertiser is between you and them, including delivery, payment and any dispute. The same applies to any external site we link to.

9. No warranty

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the site and everything on it are provided without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, nor for any loss of profit, revenue, data or opportunity, arising out of your use of this site — including any decision you took in reliance on a result it produced. This is a free service; where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid to use the site, which is nothing.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, your mandatory rights under the law of the country you live in are unaffected by anything written here.

11. Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated. The date at the top is the version in force, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the operator’s place of residence, and any dispute will be dealt with by the courts there. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer-protection rules of the country in which you live.
