Every tool, A to Z

How this catalogue is arranged

There are two ways through it, and they suit different moments. If you already know roughly what the thing is called, the alphabetical list below is the fastest route — every tool is one line, with the category it belongs to beside it. If you are not sure what exists, the twelve categories are the better door: each one opens onto a page explaining what that group of tools is for, how they differ from each other and which to reach for when.

A tool belongs to exactly one category, so the twelve lists below add up to this one with nothing counted twice and nothing left out. Where a tool could reasonably sit in two places it is filed under the job it is most often opened to do, and the hub for the other category explains the overlap rather than duplicating the entry.
